A method is provided for controlling data transport in a wireless
communications system. The method comprises using a portable
diagnostic tool, such as an ultrasound system, to collect information
from a patient. The collected information is then transmitted to a
remote server of the wireless communications system. The remote server
stores the transmitted information and then makes it available for
remotely diagnosing the patient.

A wireless communication system (20) includes a monitoring module (34) that is capable of detecting at least one type of fault scenario in the system. In a disclosed example, sleeping cells (24-30) are detected by determining a deviation between actual cell performance and an expected cell performance. The disclosed examples include automatically determining the expected cell performance and automatically determining any deviation between the actual cell performance and the expected cell performance. Statistical analysis provides an indication whether a determined deviation is indicative of a fault condition.

Embodiments of the claimed subject matter provide a manifold network for a wireless communication system. One embodiment of the wireless communication system includes a plurality of base stations and one or more radio network controllers communicatively coupled to the base stations. The base stations can be configured to provide wireless connectivity within a geographic area such that user equipment in the geographic area maintain a substantially continuous call connection with at least two of the plurality of base stations. The radio network controller can be configured to select an active set of base stations from the plurality of base stations for the user equipment. The radio network controller can also be configured to select a configurable number of the plurality of base stations from the active set to maintain the substantially continuous call connection with the user equipment. The configurable number is at least two.
